9th EUROPEAN KYUDO CHAMPIONSHIPS
(EKF TAIKAI)

The 9th European KYUDO Championships (EKF Taikai) were recently held in Cornaredo (Milan, Italy).

Kyudokas during team competition

The event was organised by the ASKA (Association for the Study of Traditional Kyudo) of Milan, under the aegis of the Municipality of Cornaredo, and sponsored by ChiaraNet srl and Milano Sport, the organisation that offers Kyudo courses at the Lido di Milano Sports Centre. There were a total of thirty competitors from seven European countries (Austria, France, Germany, United Kingdom, Sweden, Switzerland and Italy) grouped into ten teams. At stake were the two European Kyudo Federation Cups for the individual and team events, as well as two additional trophies for the winners of the team and individual events, offered respectively by the Municipality of Cornaredo and Milano Sport, and a prize for the best form consisting of a magnificent bonsai tree, offered by ASKA.

The team competition took place in the afternoon of Saturday 16 September, while the individual competition was held on the following Sunday morning.

The event was opened with a welcome ceremony staged by the local authorities, including Cornaredo's mayor Mr Pompilio Crivellone, sport councillor Ms Donatella Latella, and culture councillor Ms Mariolina Scarpa.

The dojo was set up at the newly inaugurated indoor stadium of the Sandro Pertini Sports Centre in Cornaredo.

Though unable to attend, Mr Pier Gianni Prosperini, Lombardy Region councillor for sports and youth, sent a warm message of greetings and good wishes.
